There seems to be a problem with the MPEG4 file of "Gangs of New York." I've downloaded it three times with two different download managers. All resulted in files which could not be opened. The MP4 file is okay.

Plays as is in VLC, for Windows Media Player change the extension from mpg4 to mp4

Come to mind, I used the on board download manager as incorporated into the Google Chrome web browser, that perhaps makes a difference, if a download manager is responsible. Perhaps the mpg4 extension is confusing either or both the D/L manager and the playback.

a little tip you might want to know. our derive process creates an mp4 with the fast start atom so large files (like movies) start faster. most mp4 conversion has the header at the end, the fast start puts it at the beginning. so the twist is that if you upload an mp4 rename the extension as mpeg4 and our system will create the mp4 with the fast start. if you upload it as an mp4 the system will see that an mp4 exists and not derive a new one.

I was using the extension mpg4. It seems that mpeg4 is recognized by more software.
